All counsel is not created equal, even in the same state. If you are going to choose a Counsel, make sure that you find someone who has experience in the area that you need representation in. Your counsel must be able to handle your specific case because every case is different. Your counselor must also have the time to devote to whatever it is that you need him/her to do, such as evaluating your case, discussing the facts of your case, and planning out a strategy.
An attorney does not act only as a lawyer does: they are part of the team that includes other members of the team such as investigators, paralegals, accountants, quality management people, etc. The team that you work with, (including your Counsel) should be able to help guide you in the direction that you want to go. When it comes to the various responsibilities that you and your Counsel will have to take on throughout the case, you will want to hire counsel that has experience in cases similar to yours so that they can best represent you in Court. The cost of hiring an attorney to defend you in your case is not cheap and you may find yourself in debt before the trial has concluded if you choose the wrong lawyer. That is why it is extremely important for you to be clear in your goals and expectations from your legal representation and hire counsel that is willing to work hard for you.
What does of counsel mean in a law firm? The answer to this question may very well determine if your Firm is successful or not. You must make sure that the Attorney is dedicated to representing you in the most effective manner possible. Your Counsel must understand all of the facts pertaining to your case and be knowledgeable about the applicable law as well as the applicable procedures. Your Counsel must also be willing to listen to your concerns and needs and be willing to try to find solutions to those problems.
If your counsel is unable to do these things then you may want to consider working with another legal practitioner.
